It is one of the "crook-stem" bamboos with dramatic kinks in the lower portions of its culms.

Spectabilis is very attractive with its dark green sulcus set off by bright yellow.


Its shoots come up in early spring and are often pink in color.


They are fine eating if you have extras.

Spectabilis is happy growing densely, and usually grows 20-30 feet tall.

It's popular for screens and hedges.
